Q&A
What is “Faith Coaching”?
Think of faith coaching like you would any other type of life or sports coaching. Here, one of our staff members comes alongside you to help you best realize your goals spiritually and make them reality. We’re here to help you fully assess where you’re at, any barriers to spiritual formation, and walk through you with the process of, as Paul says in Romans 12, “renewing your mind”, to help you “ reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, as we mature to the full measure of the stature of Christ”, Ephesians 4:13. We aren’t a substitute for guidance from pastors, nor a substitute for medical or mental health professionals, but what we offer is a more expansive yet biblically grounded approach to identifying and navigating all issues facing Christians today. Using various assessment tools, educational resources, external referrals as needed, and most importantly compassionate care we hope to help you grow into becoming who God has called you to be.
Each session can last between 45 minutes to an hour. This one on one time with a coach can focus on any number of topics or goals you’d like help reaching in your Christian walk. These include but aren’t limited to: Struggling with doubts, Discovering your calling, Bible study methods, help overcoming habitual sin, finding inner healing, spiritual disciplines, and more.
We make no promises on how long the process of these can take, but we’re confident with your diligence to seeking greater spiritual depth and healing, and God’s love for you, you’ll be able to overcome anything through the blood of Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
Why Church consulting?
It’s no secret today that running a church has changed significantly in the past 50 years, not to mention from when it first started in the book of Acts. More often than not, pastors/clergy are either: overworked, underpaid, underappreciated, under equipped, under qualified, or any combination of the above. That’s where we come in.
Our approach to church consulting focuses more on the tactile qualitative health and success of the congregation as opposed to numbers and reach. Don’t get me wrong, those are important. Each church member healthily walking out the Chrisitan faith is another soul God is helping and healing through crisis and sanctification. However, there can be numerous obstacles that hinder a congregation from fully embracing everything God can provide in a Sunday service, and that the congregants can take outside into the rest of their week to be the “body of Christ”, as the hands and feet of Jesus to fulfill the Great commission (Matthew. 28).
We seek to help build any congregation into a loving community of believers who “the world knows by their love for each other",John 13:34-35, and love for God. Where zeal for God is reignited and refreshed. Where God’s glory fills the service to edify all. Where everyone builds up the body through their spiritual gives (Romans 13 & 1 Corinthians 12-14). And everyone has a place to learn and grow in God's personal calling on their lives and in the righteousness of Christ.
When consulting we can assist with, but are not limited to: cultivating community, grievance mediation, promoting and establishing discipleship, reinvigorating zeal for God, ministry creation and consulting, outreach even coordination, organizational restructuring, and theological evaluations of the congregation's health.
If you are part of a denomination that has more strict rules regarding certain teachings or structures, we will respect that so long as it does not conflict with the majority of biblical teaching or cause spiritual harm. You may select for that when filling out the consulting page.
Let’s partner to elevate your congregation to it’s more mature calling in Christ for the advancement of His kingdom, the souls of your congregants, and the sake of all you reach.
Lastly, Our church consulting is for any congregation, home church, or cell group within the Pasco, Pinellas, and Hillsborough Counties of Florida. Any requests outside of those counties may incur travel fees, or we may be able to work out an alternative, in that case please send an email to inquiry@theologyreformed.com instead of filling out the normal form.
Why do I say “we”?
While I am the only one on staff at the moment, there are a few reasons. The first is that the goal of Theology Reformed is never to be a one man project. I hope to be financially blessed enough to hire other coaches and staff to have a greater impact on anyone seeking services. Secondly, this isn’t about me. I’m not the man of power for the hour with all the answers. It’s about You, God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. I’m just the facilitator/ third party who can give a different perspective, pray with you, and help discover any hindrances in your walk with God and solutions with God’s guidance. We, you and I, can direct you back to who can really save you and help you achieve your goals, the loving Father of the world.
Data Collection & Usage
We collect minimal demographic data for most clients for coaching. Any questions regarding mental or medical health is for our use to better understand cooccurring factors that can contribute to/against your goal, and to better refer you out to more professional services when needed. Other questions about congregation or spiritual mentors are for the sake of establishing a more robust support system if you’d like that. In church consulting, all questions regarding the congregation are factors that often determine the trajectory of a plan for how to best assist clergy. Aggregate data is collected to best assist with feedback and understanding results for internal and future marketing purposes.
All assessments and related documents to a session or consulting will be kept internally secured with requests to receive a copy available. Individual session documents or assessments will be kept private as best in accordance with HIPPA policy, meaning that unless you expressly tell us who you want us to share this with, no one can get your documentation or even know if you received services from us. The only exception is an overseeing staff member providing guidance on a case, on a limited information basis, and only as needed.
As one last thing, any information shared that may indicate ongoing or very recent abuse against a vulnerable adult or child we are mandated to report under Florida law. Any evidence of self harming or suicidal activities while during a session with refusal to safety plan will require the coach to inform 911 to ensure the client’s safety to the best of our ability.
Our Policy of Denominational neutrality
We prefer the term "Denominationally neutral” for a couple reasons. Other terms that seem are synonymous carry a certain baggage that misrepresents our goals. Phrases like “Non denominational” have a positive association that typically means not holding dogmatically to any historic Christian traditional ties beyond what the clergy of that church decide, or at worst negative associations because of that lack of ties or tradition to anchor theology and provide oversight for clergy. “Anti denominational” is typically associated with the dissolving of traditions or christian expressions of worship and thought. We do not agree with every denomination on every doctrine or practice because some are spiritually stunting if not dangerous, we do not want to throw the proverbial “baby out with the baptismal water”. Some traditions and beliefs should be embraced by all churches no matter what, others can be adopted without sacrificing what gives them their identity. While no Christian should say “I’m of Presbyterians, or I follow Catholics, or I am of Charismatics” like how Paul says we should not divide over groups in 1 Corinthians 1 & 3, we should strive for unity.
What this means is that we at Theology Reformed incorporate biblically based, academically vetted, and historically informed doctrines to provide a more robust understanding, principles, and practices when discussing spiritual formation, inner healing, and Christian disciplines.
We do not fit neatly into any denomination’s creeds or confessions, as we ourselves seek the fullest expression of Chrisitan living outside of dogmatic frameworks.
What this means for you if you sign up for coaching, you are free to express whatever opinion or belief you have in a judgement free zone. Likewise you will also be challenged on certain beliefs that may hinder you from growing more in christian maturity. You may, and likely will, be introduced to beliefs and practices that may seem new, odd, or different from what you’ve been taught, and that is okay. You may disagree with what is taught, and that also is okay.
For those seeking church consulting, our stance means we will come alongside you, seeking the best for the development of the congregation. We will, if you wish, accommodate you within your denomination’s tradition, so long as the tradition itself is not spiritually damaging or stunting. Your level of openness dictates how and what is supplemented and approved upon.
For all clients keep this in mind. We exist to serve and support you. Theology Reformed seeks to have cordial discussions and promote healthy biblical Christianity. Our focus is on helping you no matter what. We will remain denominationally neutral so you can experience the broader scope of the Chrisitan faith.
Can Non-Chrisitans use the coaching service?
Why would a non-Christian use our service? Well the answer is, there are plenty of people who have left the faith, whether atheists, buddhists, or adopting a whole nother religion altogether, or people who are curious and want to engage in charitable dialogue as to why people are christian, a reasonable understanding of the faith, or to work through hurts they received from the church growing up. If you are a non christian of any other religious faith seeking our services, we are happy to help. We will not support an alternative spiritual lifestyle apart from Chrisitanity.
You are beloved by God, no matter if you are questioning if you should become a Chrisitan, or have walked away from the faith. And we exist to help you remove the barriers of suffering, sins, doubt, ignorance, or whatever else it may be, so you can know and experience the power and love of God in your life.
